Washington is the state on the Pacific coast that was named after the first US president, George Washington – and has to share this with the US capital, Washington D.C. To distinguish itself, the state, which is also nicknamed the “Evergreen State” because of the large number of conifers, is often referred to as Washington State. The state's evergreen character is impressively demonstrated in this episode of “Aerial America”. Some of America's highest mountains are found here, notably the active volcano Mount St. Helens (2549 m), which in May 1980 erupted with one of the most powerful volcanic eruptions of the 20th century. Many well-known companies have their origins in Washington. Companies such as Boeing, Starbucks and Microsoft come from the state of endless forests...
